Recent Thoughts
I’ve been working on my 2D roguelike in my free time for the past few months, and I wanted to put down some thoughts on where the project is at right now.
When I started, I barely knew my way around the Godot engine. Since then, I’ve been learning step-by-step—rewriting things, breaking things, fixing them again, and slowly building the game I’ve had in my head. It’s wild looking back and realizing how much progress I’ve actually made.
That said, there’s still a lot I want to improve:
-
Combat — I want it to feel tighter, faster, and more responsive. There are mechanics I haven’t even implemented yet.
-
UI — Definitely needs polish. Some menus feel functional but not clean, and health/level-up feedback needs more juice.
-
Sprites — I’m still experimenting with style and animation. I want the visuals to match the gameplay’s energy.
Even with all that left to do, I’m feeling good about the direction things are going. My goal is to have the game fully finished by May 2026, and that still feels realistic as long as I keep working on it consistently.
It’s been challenging, but honestly, it’s been fun. Every time something finally works the way I imagined, it reminds me why I started making this in the first place.
More updates soon — back to coding.
